We often stop at roadside stands or attractions on our travels. One of our new favorites is the Cascadian Farm Home Farm. Located along the North Cascade Highway, the Home Farm sits nestled in the mountains with plenty of space for picnics. And the best part is the Ice Cream! Made locally, the flavors are all natural and delicious! We tried the raspberry, with and without chocolate chips, and were not disappointed! The raspberry flavor was like picking berries from the bush... sweet, fresh and a touch sour. 2.5 hours north of Seattle is a gorgeous glacial fed reservoir. Diablo Lake lives up to its name only in the temperature of the water. The drive, hiking, kayaking and canoeing say otherwise. All too often we stick with what we know and forgo the other amazing offerings that a restaurant may have. We recently wandered off of our beaten path of sandwiches at Un Bien and tried their seafood in red sauce...and we're glad we did! From the options of fish, prawns,scallops and tofu, we chose the scallops and they were cooked perfectly, firm and somehow still melt in your mouth. While driving towards the coast from Olympia, it's hard to miss the unusual site of nuclear cooling towers looming over the landscape. The Satsop Business Park hosts a nearly complete, but abandoned, nuclear power plant. The project failed in the early 80's after failing to secure funding to finish construction with the towers being the most prominent part completed.
