The Seattle Bucket List

Thursday, September 28, 2017

Rising from the North Shore of Lake Union, Gasworks park is a Seattle Icon. Opened to the public in 1975, the park design incorporates the remnants of the coal gasification plant that operated on the site until 1956. The main towers serve as an unaccessible relic to a time past while some of the other piping and machinery has been painted and reused as part of the "play barn". On the west side of the park, "the Mound" rises above the park providing an excellent place for flying kites. Atop the Mound, an artistic sundial tracks the seasons. Gasworks is a favorite for picnics, photos and sports. Whether you want to gather some friends or stroll alone, Gasworks is an ideal spot to escape the hustle and bustle without traveling far. #seattle #travel #outdoors #parks #gasworks #gasworkspark #urban #urbandecay #reclaimed #nature #factory #ruins #city #lakeunion #waterfront #hiking #walk #picnic #industrial #seattlebucketlist #parksandrec #wallingford #explore #urbanexploration

Seattle has seen an incredible surge of food trucks recently. There are amazing trucks serving fabulous meals all throughout the city. Just north of the city, a small food truck serves up some of the best Mexican food in the area. Sitting at the corner of Aurora Ave and 145th St, Grumpy's offers inexpensive, high quality meals that are flavorful and made to order with homemade sauces that add a little something more. (try the Habanero sauce on your wet burrito!) With a straight forward menu that allows them to focus on the food, Grumpy's always satisfies. #seattle #travel #food #eats #foodtruck #mexican #mexicanfood #burrito #seafood #carne #seattlebucketlist #dinner #lunch #tasty #yum

In Fremont, hiding in plain sight, is a means to escape the "Center of the Universe". The Fremont Rocket was erected in 1994 from a Cold War era fuselage and features a variety of lights along its sides and fins. And if your lucky you can witness "launch mode", during which steam vapor emanates from the base. #seattle #travel #fremont #art #space #coldwar #sculpture #reclaimed #outside #walkingtour #spacetravel #outerspace #installationart #installation #seattlebucketlist #astronomy #astronaut #amazing #follow #photography #sky

The enormity of food choices in Seattle is one of the reasons we love our city. From sushi to burgers there is a place that will satisfy every need. Tiko Riko serves up a meal that has become one of our favorites: Pupusas. Pupusas are a traditional Salvadorian meal of a thick corn tortilla stuffed with fillings. Tiko Riko's pupusas are full of your choice of cheese and your choice of chicken, pork, beans, zucchini or loroco, an edible flower, which has quickly become our favorite. The incredible food, combined with the great staff, is what keeps bringing us back. So head up to Greenwood and treat your tastebuds! #seattle #travel #food #eats #greenwood #tikoriko #pupusas #elsalvador #tasty #vegetarian #loroco #latinamerica #dinner #seattlebucketlist

It's not often that you can confront your childhood monsters, emulate you musical heroes and travel to strange and distant worlds in one day... Unless you are at the Museum of Pop Culture. MoPop takes all of your favorite things and houses them under one roof. With exhibits that pay homage to Seattle's music scene; the Icons of Science Fiction exhibit; Scared to Death, an exhibit to make your heart race and pulse pound; and a series of special exhibits that currently range from The Muppets to Bowie. Every visit to MoPop is a new adventure! #seattle #travel #museum #scifi #music #art #fantasy #mopop #movies #television #history #popculture #seattlebucketlist #seattlecenter #startrek #drwho

Sometimes the best food is hidden in plain sight... I See Food is one of those places. The unassuming exterior hides the incredible Cajun fusion resturaunt within. With a menu that has gumbo and jambalaya alongside crawfish fried rice and drunken clams, I See Food offers up many tasty options, but our favorite is the seafood boil: a variety of seafood, sausage, corn and potatoes boiled and seasoned in cajun garlic butter. Ordered with a side of toast to soak up the sauce and it's pure bliss. #seattle #travel #food #eats #seafood #boil #shrimp #clams #mussels #crab #tasty #dinner #ocean #yum #asian #fusion #creole #foodie #seattlebucketlist #bliss

If you have been in nearly any retail store in the last several years you have probably notice the proliferation of Pop Vinyl collectibles. Standing at just under 4 inches tall, Pop Vinyls span nearly every facet of pop culture, sports, music and even politics. We were ,lucky enough to visit their offices when they were in Lynnwood, and we were definitely thrilled when we heard that Funko would be building a massive store of their own in Everett. They did not disappoint. The 10,000 square foot store pays homage to a variety of the titles and themes that are available as Pops. The detail that went into the design isn't completely apparent on the first walk through, but the second (and third, fourth, etc.) reveal the efforts that were taken to wow and amaze fans. So revel in your in geek and find that collectible that you didn't know you need. #seattle #travel #pop #funko #funkopop #collection #popculture #everett #collectable #toy #toys #movies #comics #music #videogames #popvinyl #shopping #storefront #starwars #harrypotter #disney #anime #superhero #seattlebucketlist

Every September the shores of Green Lake light up at dusk. Sponsored by the Fremont Arts Council, the Luminata lantern parade celebrates the Autumn Equinox with music, artist, fire dancing and of course illuminated lanterns, clothing an sculptures. The festivities begin at the Aqua Theater (near the SW corner of the lake) and culminate in a procession around the walking trail. Everyone is welcome and if you would like to create your own glowing creation to bring there are free workshops for several weeks leading to the parade. Get up, get out and get glowing! #seattle #travel #outside #greenlake #fire #firedancer #lantern #lanternfestival #trail #outdoors #festival #luminata #wa #wander #wonder #pnwexplorations #pnw #fremont #art #handmade #seattlebucketlist

Seattle is not lacking for fantastic places to get dessert. From chocolatiers to bakers, every neighborhood boasts its own favorites. However, there is a new shop that, while difficult to find, is worth the search. Matcha Man Ice Cream is a traveling creamery that can only be found in pop-ups around the region. Serving up unique flavors such as ube, black seasame and matcha, Matcha Man has created a devoted following that often buys them out before the pop-up is over. Delivered in koi shaped or black seasame waffle cones, they don't last nearly long enough. #seattle #travel #food #eats #icecream #matcha #wafflecone #ube #sesame #sweets #dessert #popupshop #wa #treat #tasty #foodie #unique #seattlebucketlist
